Helga West

Helga West , also North Sami Biennaš-Jon Jovnna Piera Helga (* 1986 in Utsjoki , Finland ), is a Sami poet from Finland.

Life

Helga West was born in 1986 in the village of Outakoski (Utsjoki municipality) in the Finnish part of Sápmi . She studied theology at the University of Helsinki and is currently working on her dissertation on "Reconciliation". She made her debut as a poet in 2018 with a volume of poetry written in North Sami. Several of her poems were also published in German translation by Christine Schlosser .
