Helias Meder

Helias Meder (born March 20, 1761 in Emden ; † June 17, 1825 there ) was the most important Reformed theologian of East Frisia in the late Enlightenment period .

Life

After studying theology in Groningen , Meder became a pastor in the parishes of Hornhuizen and Kloosterburen in 1785 . After four years he accepted an offer in his hometown Emden, where he was elected on May 1, 1789 and introduced on May 3, 1789.

In the years 1804–1807 he published his main theological work, the Openlijke Kerk-Leer of the evangelical-reformeerde Gemeente in Emden en Oostfriesland , the third paraphrase of the Emden catechism from 1554 , after he had already written some theological occasional writings. The volume published in 1804 1 comprises 688 pages, volume 2 with its two parts (1805) 436 and 462 pages and volume 3 of 1807 has a circumference of 651 pages. All in all, this interpretation of the Emden Catechism is a 2237-page opus opulens.
