Helicon is a relatively small impact crater to the northwest of the front of the moon in the Mare Imbrium plain . To the east of this is the somewhat smaller Le Verrier crater .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek mathematician Helikon von Kyzikos .
