General

Helinchen oak

The tree is at the edge of the forest, at the eastern end of the street "An der Helincheneiche". It was declared a natural monument on April 1, 1972 . The vitality of the tree veteran has visibly declined, and supports are placed on the tree to maintain it.

legend

The tree supposedly got its name after Helinchen, the heroine of a story. According to tradition, she was the daughter of a farmer in Unterkerzenheim. Helinchen was supposed to be married to the son of a rich farmer, but loved the chief hunter Anselm of Count Eberhard von Eberstein at Stauf Castle . When this became known, the count, at the request of his parents, sent his hunter to a lonely hermitage in the Kerzenheim back forest, whereupon Helinchen died of grief. When Helinchen was about to be buried, the corpse-bearers heard a mad laugh and saw the girl's face behind the window grille in the gable of the courtyard. Anselm fell in the fight against the Rau- und Wildgrafen in the lower Alsenz valley . Dying he forgave his master. Helinchen and Anselm are said to be visible under the Helinchen oak on full moon nights.
