Location of Steinborn in Rhineland-Palatinate

Steinborn is a district of Eisenberg (Pfalz) in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . With an area of approx. 63 hectares and approx. 1850 inhabitants, the district is of great importance for Eisenberg.

history

Steinborn was founded in 1936 by former workers from the Gienanth foundry . The first residents of Steinborn settled in today's Paul-Münch- Strasse.

The first groundbreaking took place on November 3, 1936 under the direction of Mayor Ludwig, architect Matheis, settler chairman Franz Storbek and Heimstätte AG in Neustadt / Weinstrasse as the settlement agency. Started as a housing development project, the settlement developed very quickly. After 16 families in 1937, there were 121 people at the end of 1938. Slowed down by the turmoil of the war, it took until 1952 for a new spirit of optimism to prevail with the completion of the settlers' home, now known as “Hallchen”. The first settlers' Christmas was celebrated in the new community house.

The history of the new Steinborn settlement began on May 26, 1963. At that time it was the Federal Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Regional Planning, Paul Lücke, who personally laid the foundation stone at Uhlandstraße 1. The plaque with the year 1965 is still there today in the masonry at the entrance to the property.

With the inclusion of the already existing Paul-Münch-Strasse, the "Eisenberg-Steinborn" building area in the "In den Mühlhecken" district was launched. From then on, under the leadership of the Worms construction company "dfh", many inexpensive homes were built here, which, in addition to affordable financing, were built to a large extent through self-help by the builders. This meant that people with limited financial means could also afford their own home here.

As a “demonstrative building project of the federal government”, a new, unique concept was also implemented in the design of the living environment in Steinborn. Homes embedded in the green surroundings with their own access roads to the houses should make natural, quiet and relaxing living possible. At first Steinborn was able to cover the basic needs of the residents themselves with a restaurant, a small supermarket, a savings bank branch and a bakery. Of these, only the “Bistro Cosmopolitan” is still active today.

The focus of the district is the “House of the Church”, which has been an integral part of the Steinborn family for 25 years as a church institution with the Hauth family as pastors and administrators. Just like the kindergarten, these facilities are known beyond Steinborn's borders.
