Hella Lendl

Hella Lendl , née Zwerschitz , (born February 3, 1905 in Mürzzuschlag , Styria ; died September 30, 2004 ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and housewife. After the end of the Second World War, she built up the socialist women's movement in her hometown.

Life

Hella Lendl was born as Hella Zwerschitz. She was the daughter of the railway worker Johann Zwerschitz and his wife Luise. She visited six years primary school in Mürzzuschlag and then for two years, the town school . Later she continued her education through various evening courses, including at the women's school in Waldegg . In 1921 she began an apprenticeship as a lawyer at the Mürzzuschlag consumer cooperative . After completing her apprenticeship, she worked for the consumer company until 1938, including from 1936 as the main cashier and secretary of the management.

Lendl began her political career shortly after her apprenticeship as a functionary of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) and the local workers' gymnastics club and the consumer cooperative. Due to her marriage, Lendl retired from professional life in 1939 and was a housewife until after the end of the Second World War . In 1941 their son, their only child, was born. After the end of the war, she was called to the SPÖ as a functionary in 1945 and in that year built up the socialist women's movement in her home town of Mürzzuschlag. In the first state parliament election after the Second World War on December 12, 1945, Lendl was elected as a member of the state parliament in the Styrian state parliament, to which she belonged until April 6, 1970. She was chairman of the social committee and deputy chairman of the economic committee as well as a member of the housing and school committee. From 1946 to 1970 she was a member of the municipal council of Mürzzuschlag, where until 1956 the 1950 parish council belonged.

In 1960, Lendl was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honor of the Republic of Austria for her services to the Republic of Austria . The city of Mürzzuschlag also awarded her the city's ring of honor in 1970.
