Helle Sofie Sagøy (born January 19, 1998 ) is a Norwegian badminton player . She starts in Parabadminton in the starting class SL4 in singles, doubles and mixed and is preparing for participation in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo .

Athletic career

Helle Sofie Sagøy was born with dysmelia and has a prosthetic lower leg on her right . She started at the age of nine with the Parabadminton . In 2013 Sagøy took part in their first Badminton World Championship for the disabled in Dortmund and was defeated in the individual final by the Indian Parul Dalsukhbhai Parmar . In the doubles, played as a round-robin tournament, she won all three games with Katrin Seibert and won gold. At the 2014 European Badminton Championships for the disabled in Murcia , Sagøy won gold in singles and mixed games with Englishman Bobby Griffin . In the singles final of the Parabadminton World Championships 2015 Sagøy defeated the French Faustine Noël . In doubles, she won all four group games with Katrin Seibert and thus also won gold. The European Badminton Championships for the disabled in Rodez in 2018 brought Sagøy gold in the singles, with a final victory over Faustine Noël. With Katrin Seibert she defeated the French-Danish duo Coraline Bergeron and Cathrine Rosengren in the double final . Finally, she won bronze in mixed with Jan-Niklas Pott . At the Parabadminton World Cup 2019 in Basel , which was dominated by Asian players , Sagøy won bronze in singles.
