Hellmuth Fischer

Hellmuth Fischer (born August 24, 1902 in Berlin ; † February 3, 1976 ) was a German chemist.

life and work

Fischer studied chemistry at the University of Berlin from 1921 to 1926 . The doctorate took place in 1926 with Alfred Stock . From 1949 to 1950 he was head of the research laboratories at Siemens & Halske AG. During this time, Fischer worked intensively on researching the chemistry of beryllium and the production of pure silicon . In 1950 he was appointed associate professor at the TU Berlin . In 1951 he became a full professor at the University of Karlsruhe , where he took over the Institute for Physical and Electrochemistry and where he retired in 1970.

The focus of his scientific work was in the field of corrosion inhibition and the electrolytic deposition of metals.

Fischer received numerous prizes and awards. He was u. a. awarded the DECHEMA medal . In 1965 he received an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Dresden .

In honor of Fischer, DECHEMA has been awarding the Hellmuth Fischer Medal since 1989 for work in the field of electrochemistry , corrosion or corrosion protection .
