Helma Heymann

Helma Heymann (* 1937 in Wolgast ) is a German-speaking writer for children's and youth literature .

Life

Helma Heymann grew up on the island of Usedom in the vicinity of the circle of artists around the painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein . She passed her Abitur in Greifswald in 1956 and began studying medicine in Greifswald in 1958, which she broke off after five semesters. Between 1962 and 1964 she trained in child psychiatry and then worked as a music therapist . She has been working as a freelance writer since 1980. She writes fairy tales, fantastic stories, literary travel books and radio plays.

Heymann is married, has three children and lives in Berlin .

• 1989: Publishing price of the Junge Welt publishing house "To promote popular science children's literature"
• 1993: Special prize for “Lyrik vom Meer” from the city of Wilhelmshaven
