Helmar Schubert (* 25. February 1939 in Berlin ) is a professor emeritus of food - process engineering at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology . Until his retirement in 2004 he was head of the Institute for Bio- and Food Technology at KIT .

Career

Schubert studied mechanical engineering and process engineering at the Technical University of Berlin and the University of Karlsruhe. He received his doctorate in chemical engineering under Hans Rumpf in 1972 and completed his habilitation there in 1981. From 1986 until his retirement in April 2004 he held the chair for food process engineering and was head of the institute of the same name at the University of Karlsruhe (TH), now KIT.

Schubert was also head of the Institute for Process Engineering of the Federal Research Institute for Nutrition in Karlsruhe from 1977 to 1991. He was then head of the Federal Research Institute for Nutrition from 1982 to 1984 and chairman of the GVC from 2001 to 2004. He was also deputy chairman from 2002 to 2004 of the DECHEMA Society for Chemical Technology and Biotechnology eV He also headed the GVC technical committee "Food Process Engineering" and was a member of the technical committees "Interfaces" and "Agglomeration and bulk material technology".

Schubert has been a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences since 2001 . He is also a member of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology and the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) . Helmar Schubert is a founding member of the International Association for Engineering and Food IAEF and has been chairman of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering EFCE Section on Food since 2004 . He is also a writer for The European .

Honors

In 2004 Schubert received the Hans Rumpf Medal from the Society for Chemical Technology and Biotechnology DECHEMA for his services to the further development of mechanical process engineering and its introduction into food process engineering.
