From 1997 to 2002, the exterior was renovation of the building instead, and the partial refurbishment of the sports hall . The primary school was closed in 2007, and the Helmholtz School was established in 2013. In the 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 school years, the Helmholtz School had a branch at G.-Schwarz-Straße 113, 04179 Leipzig. Since the 2015/16 school year, the school on Georg-Schwarz-Straße has been an independent school as the Georg-Schwarz-Straße school.

Location and facilities

The school is located directly on the Karl Heine Canal . She has her own boathouse and canoes . She has a ceramic workshop and a wood workshop.

Educational concept

At the school there is German as a second language (DaZ) as a regular subject in integration classes . She realizes the productive learning project , which has been carried out since the 2009/10 school year as part of a school trial at a total of 8 secondary schools in Saxony. Here, pupils with learning difficulties from the 8th and 9th grade are encouraged by partially relocating their training to companies instead of schooling alone. Careers counseling is very important. Career start-up support takes place within the framework of the graduation and follow-up program - educational chains up to the end of the training . This includes our own school fair, in which 50 companies, some of them national, took part in 2019, as well as the practice consultant project in schools .

In 2017 there was a five-day German-Polish youth meeting under the motto My picture, your picture, our picture .

As part of political education, the Minister of State for Federal and European Affairs Oliver Schenk came to the school on the EU project day on March 29, 2019 and answered questions from the students.
