Helmet cushions

Helmet cushion as a coat of arms figure in the coat of arms of Küssnacht am Rigi

In heraldry, the helmet cushion is part of the coat of arms as an auxiliary item . This flat, square, padded plate (cushion) is placed on the coat of arms to accommodate other heraldic figures and is often tinged in the main colors of the coat of arms . Tassels or saddles hang from the corners of the pillow, which is described as comforting . The helmet cushion is also suitable for holding an umbrella board . Occasionally it can also be a mean figure in the coat of arms and is then shown with the larger area facing the viewer. This broadside representation is also possible above the helmet as an auxiliary sign and is used to add certain repeated figures from the shield. In the coat of arms of Proveis it is covered with a heraldic animal and in the coat of arms of Laurein with a plow .
