Helmut Barwig

Helmut Barwig (born March 18, 1930 in Neustädterwald / Free City of Danzig ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

After attending primary school in Neustädterwald and the state advanced school in Neuteich , Barwig began his hydraulic engineering apprenticeship in 1948 and passed the journeyman's examination. In 1954 he also successfully passed the hydraulic engineering master's examination. He worked as a technical employee at the water management office in Stade .

Barwig has been a member of the Public Services, Transport and Traffic Union (today Ver.di ) since 1950 . Barwig joined the SPD in 1960 and has been district chairman since 1970. Barwig has been councilor of the Drochtersen community since 1961 and was mayor of the Assel community between 1968 and 1972. After the reorganization of the community, he became mayor of the Drochtersen community in 1976. In 1964 he became a member of the district council and between 1972 and 1976 he was district administrator for the district of Stade .

Between June 21, 1974 and June 20, 1986 Barwig was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament for the 8th to 10th electoral term.
