Helmut Beran

Helmut Beran (born November 1, 1939 in Linz ) is an Austrian statistician. Until his retirement he was a professor at the technical and natural science faculty of the Johannes Kepler University in Linz. His research areas were applied statistics, statistical ecology and biometrics .

Life

After graduating from the secondary school in Linz from 1950 to 1958, Beran studied physics and mathematics at the University of Vienna . He obtained his doctorate in 1965. phil. During his doctoral studies, 1964–65, he worked at the IBM laboratory in Vienna. 1966–67 he was a DFG research fellow at the statistical department of the Institute for Social and Economic Sciences at the University of Bonn .

In 1967 he finally came to the Johannes Kepler University in Linz . He received a position at the Institute for Systems Sciences. He completed his habilitation in 1988 on the subject of integral research statistics taking into account applied statistics . After a visiting professorship at the University of Innsbruck from 1990 to 1991 , he was appointed university professor in Linz in 1993. He was head of the department for applied systems research and statistics .

He retired in October 2005.
