Helmut Berge

Helmut Berge (born December 28, 1937 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. With the company sports community (BSG) Stahl Riesa he played from 1969 to 1970 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

When BSG Stahl Riesa rose to the second-rate GDR league in 1963 , the team also included the 25-year-old goalkeeper Helmut Berge. In his seven seasons in the higher-class league area, Berge was only two goalkeepers for Riesa : in 1964/65, when he played all 30 GDR league games, and in 1967/68, when he played 29 league games and played a key role in the rise of BSG Stahl in the GDR. Oberliga contributed. In his two league seasons he had to deal with Manfred Eitz, who was five years his junior in 1968 . In 1968/69 Berge was only used in three league games, in 1969/70 he represented Eitz twelve times in the league. 1969/70 was also Berg's last season for Stahl Riesa in the league. The 32-year-old was named in the senior league team for the 1970/71 season, but was no longer used. Within seven seasons Helmut Berge had played 93 GDR league games and 15 league games.
