Manfred Eitz (born July 19, 1943 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. He played from 1968 to 1971 for the company sports community (BSG) Stahl Riesa in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

In the 1966/67 season, the 23-year-old goalkeeper Manfred Eitz made his debut in higher-class GDR football when he played all 30 league games with the BSG Lokomotive Halberstadt in the second-rate GDR league . Since promoted Lok Halberstadt had to relegate after a season, Eitz spent the 1967/68 season in the Magdeburg district league , but helped the team to the district championship title. Since the BSG Lok failed in the promotion round to the GDR league with fourth place out of five teams, Eitz moved to the top division Stahl Riesa for the 1968/69 season.

At BSG Stahl, Eitz was the first goalkeeper for three seasons. In the 78 league games played during this time, he was in 57 games in the goal of Riesa . The end of his Riesa career was initiated on the 18th matchday of the 1970/71 season with the league match between Stahl Riesa and 1. FC Magdeburg (2-2). With two serious mistakes, Eitz helped 1. FC to take a 2-1 lead and was replaced by coach Karl Schäffner at halftime . After Eitz was not set up again for the rest of the season, he left Stahl Riesa at the end of the season and returned to Halberstadt .

There the BSG Lokomotive teamed up with the army sports community Vorwärts Halberstadt and acted as the Lokomotive / Vorwärts Halberstadt game community. The SpG. had just been promoted back to the GDR league, and from the 1971/72 season on Eitz spent four more second division seasons in Halberstadt. In his first season he had to wait until the goalkeeper Hans-Werner Heine switched to 1. FC Magdeburg and only then could play the remaining eleven league games. In the 1972/73 and 1973/74 seasons, Eitz was the undisputed number one goal in the SpG. He played all 22 league games. In the 1974/75 season, Eitz was now 31 years old, he was only called up in seven league games in the GDR league. At the end of the season, the Halberstadt team rose again from the GDR league. After that, Eitz did not appear in the higher leagues, in which he had played 57 games in the upper league and 92 GDR league games within eight seasons.
