Siegfried Schumacher

Siegfried Schumacher (born August 9, 1926 in Oderberg ; † June 10, 2018 in Bad Freienwalde (Oder) ) was a German children's book author.

Life

His parents moved to Bad Freienwalde in 1937, where he graduated from high school with a secondary school diploma. After the war and captivity, he became a new teacher . He studied in Leipzig at the Institute for Literature "Johannes R. Becher" and lived with his wife Hildegard (1925-2003) as a freelance artist in Bad Freienwalde from 1962. In 1964, both of them founded the “Writing Students” group there and in what was then the Frankfurt (Oder) district . He has been writing children's books with his wife since 1965.

Schumacher was also politically active in Bad Freienwalde. After 1989 he was one of the founding fathers of the SPD there and was head of the city council for several years. In 2005 the city of Bad Freienwalde granted him honorary citizenship.
