Helmut C. Jacobs

Helmut C. Jacobs (* 1957 in Bonn ) is a German Romanist and musician .

Live and act

From 1976 to 1983 Jacobs studied Romance and German at the University of Bonn and at the University of Toulouse (as a DAAD scholarship holder). In addition, there are further study stays in Brasow (Romania) and Santiago de Compostela (also as a DAAD scholarship holder).

In 1987 Jacobs received his doctorate (as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation ) on the subject of literature, music and society in Italy and Austria during the Napoleonic era and the Restoration. Studies of Giuseppe Carpani (1751-1825) . He completed his habilitation in 1995 on the subject of Beauty and Taste - The Theory of the Arts in Spanish Literature of the 18th Century .

After a substitute professor at the University of Düsseldorf , Jacobs accepted the call to the University of Duisburg .

Jacobs' main research interests include short narratives from the Romanesque Middle Ages, the literature of the French, Italian and Spanish Enlightenment, the interrelationships between literature and music, as well as between image and text.

In addition, Jacobs is a passionate musician. As an accordion player, he has won awards at national and international competitions. As part of his academic work, he also deals with literature on instruments such as the English concertina or the harmonium. In 2014 Jacobs was invited to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. As an accordion player, he has already released several CDs.
