Helmut Collmann (politician)

Helmut Collmann (born September 16, 1939 in Freiburg an der Elbe ) is a German teacher and politician from the Westoverledingen community in the district of Leer ( East Friesland ). He belongs to the SPD and was a directly elected member of the Leer / Borkum constituency in the Lower Saxony state parliament for three legislative periods . He held this mandate from 1990 to 2003.

Life

After attending elementary school in Wischhafen and Westrhauderfehn, he switched to grammar school in Papenburg. Here he passed his Abitur in 1962 and began studying pedagogy in Münster and Oldenburg. Between 1967 and 1975 he worked as a teacher in Flachsmeer in the Leer district and was then training director and seminar rector until 1983. In 1983 he took up a position as rector in Zetel and Leer-Loga until he was elected to the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Collmann has been a member of the SPD since 1971 and became chairman of the SPD local association in Flachsmeer. He became a member of the board of directors of Sparkasse Leer-Weener and a member of the credit committee. He was chairman of the board of the State Electricity Association of Oldenburg (LEV) and deputy chairman of the Lower Saxony Football Association in the Leer district.

In 1973 he became a member of the local council in Flachsmeer and was local mayor there until 1986. He has been on the Westoverledingen local council since 1973 and was mayor here between 1986 and 1990. In 1981 he became a member of the district council. He was deputy (honorary) district administrator of the district of Leer between 1981 and 1986 and in 1986 became district administrator of the district of Leer. Collmann was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament in the 12th to 14th electoral term. A particular concern of Helmut Collmann is the education and development of children and young people. In 1999 he co-founded the “Alliance for Movement” with his action program in the district of Leer, which received nationwide attention. As a patron, he supports the “Ostfriesische Turnshow” benefit event, which has been taking place every two years since 2005. He is also a founding member of the East Frisian Gymnastics and Sport Association, which financially supports socially integrative exercise projects for children, young people and families.

Since September 6, 2002, before leaving the state parliament, Collmann was president of the East Frisian region . In November 2008 he was elected for a further six years. In 2014, after twelve years in office, he did not run again for reasons of age. On November 29, 2014, the landscape assembly elected Rico Mecklenburg from Emden as the new landscape president.
