Rico Mecklenburg (born January 26, 1949 in Oldenburg ) is a German teacher and politician from the city of Emden in East Frisia . He belongs to the SPD and has been the sixth post-war president of the East Frisian landscape since November 29, 2014 .

Life

Mecklenburg first graduated from secondary school in Oldenburg in 1964 . He then learned the profession of lathe operator at AEG in his hometown until 1967. From 1968 to December 1971 Mecklenburg in Rotenburg (Wümme) was a regular soldier in the German Armed Forces as a helicopter mechanic. In 1971 he completed his training as an aircraft mechanic in Bremen as a career advancement measure for the Bundeswehr . He then worked for the United Flight Technical Works in Varel until 1973 . On the second educational path he obtained the higher education entrance qualification before he studied history, technical works and politics for teaching at the University of Education in Oldenburg and from 1975 at the Carl von Ossietzky University . Since 1976 he has worked as a teacher at various schools in Emden, most recently as rector of the elementary, secondary and secondary school in Wybelsum. He has been retired since February 2014.

Mecklenburg has been a union member since his apprenticeship and was active in the youth of IG Metall and as a company youth representative. He has been a member of the Education and Science Union (GEW) since his training as a teacher . He was also a member of the staff council at the Emden School Supervisory Authority and chairman of the committee from 1981 to 2004. He is also a member of the AWO KV Emden and the Society for Fine Art and Patriotic Antiquities from 1820 , in short: 1820 KUNST .

In 1972 he joined the SPD. From 1991 to 2016 he was a member of the council of the city of Emden, council chairman and honorary mayor. He has been a member of the landscape assembly since 2002. There he was a member of the Education Committee and since 2009, as the Landscape Council responsible for education, a member of the College of the East Frisian Landscape. On November 29, 2014, the members of the landscape assembly elected him to succeed Helmut Collmann as landscape president .
