Helmut Gabbert

Helmut Erich Gabbert (born February 18, 1950 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German pathologist. Most recently, he was professor at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and deputy medical director of the Düsseldorf University Hospital.

Live and act

Helmut Gabbert studied medicine at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , where he became active in the Corps Borussia Halle in 1968 . In 1974 he received his doctorate as Dr. med. In 1975 he received his license to practice medicine, in 1980 he was recognized as a specialist in pathology. In 1983 he qualified as a university assistant at the Pathological-Anatomical Institute of the University of Mainz in the field of pathology. 1984 was appointed private lecturer. In 1987 he accepted a call to a C3 professorship at the University Hospital in Mainz. In 1992 he turned down a call to the chair of pathology at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen . Instead, in July 1992, he accepted a call to the chair of pathology at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and became director of the Institute for Pathology. From 2006 to 2015 he was Deputy Medical Director of the University Hospital Düsseldorf. For many years he was a member of the Faculty Council of the Medical Faculty. He was also chairman of the research committee of the medical faculty. From 2000 to 2006 he chaired the clinic conference of the University Clinic in Düsseldorf. He retired in July 2015.

The main focus of Gabbert's work was the pathology and molecular pathology of gastroesophageal carcinomas.

Gabbert was a long-time member of the guideline steering group in the German Society for Pathology . In the field of pathology, he was a member of the expert commission for medical treatment errors at the North Rhine Medical Association . From 2000 to 2004 he was a member of the board of the German Cancer Society . In 2004 he was elected President of the German Society for Pathology .
