Helmut Kand (2016)

Helmut Kand (born December 13, 1946 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian artist.

Life

In 1966 he passed the Matura and then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and was in the master class of AP Gütersloh and Rudolf Hausner , later in Rome and London. In 1968 there was a meeting with Friedensreich Hundertwasser in Venice. Two years later, Hundertwasser and Kand were exhibiting in Rome at the same time. In 1969, at the opening of his exhibition at the Ewan Phillips Gallery in London, Helmut Kand organized the public burning of his pictures. The ashes, filled in vials, were displayed.

In 2006, Heinz Fischer , Federal President of Austria, awarded Helmut Kand the title of "Professor".

The Austrian Post issues one artist stamp per year as part of the “Modern Art in Austria” series, and Helmut Kand's image “Annual rings of happiness and fragrance” was selected for 2010.

Numerous exhibitions in galleries, museums, public collections and art halls around the world made the artist internationally known from an early age.

When the capital of Oman Muscat was the 2006 cultural capital in the Arab world, Sultan Qaboos invited one artist each from 40 countries - and from Austria this was Helmut Kand. Several art prizes and awards, including a .: "Painting Ambassador of Ios", "Foreign Born Indonesian Artist".

Helmut Kand describes himself as a “poetic surrealist”. His flat sculptures are made of wood, stainless steel or glass.
