from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Museum for Contemporary Art - Diether Kunerth is a municipal exhibition center for contemporary art in Ottobeuren . It has been operated since summer 2016 by the Ottobeurer Museums, Art and Culture Association . The works of the local artist Diether Kunerth and other renowned contemporary artists are to be shown. The house opened on May 24, 2014.

history

The museum was built by the market town of Ottobeuren with funding from the Free State of Bavaria and the EU for 4.7 million euros. The first director of the house was the museologist Marco van Bel who resigned from his office before the opening. From March to May 2014, the cultural scientist and Romance scholar Saskia Wiedner was the curator and head of the collection. From May to November 2014 the house was run by the two cultural scientists Regina Gropper and Sabine Brecheisen. From January to April 2015, the Ottobeur management consultant Horst Flämig was the company's director. Since then, Markus Albrecht, the second mayor of Ottobeuren, has been running the museum.

architecture

The museum was designed by Atelier Lohrer from Stuttgart . In the previous competition, Atelier Lohrer prevailed against Stephan Braunfels Architects, among others .

With the opening of the museum on May 24, 2014, a two-year intensive construction phase came to an end. The demolition of a building complex of the former deer brewery in the center of Ottobeuren gave the market community the chance of a cultural reuse. For the two-storey building, the so-called "Hornung Hall" of the former brewery complex was partially preserved, rebuilt and supplemented with an annex to include an entrance area and functional rooms.

The architectural integration of the museum area into the town center was awarded two international architecture prizes. The ICONIC AWARD 2015 Architecture and the German Design Award in the Excellent Communications Design - Architecture category.

Exhibitions

Two to three exhibitions should take place each year. The opening exhibition was dedicated to the subject of Egypt : "In the artist's work, 'Egypt' has become a symbol that on the one hand outlines the central theme in his overall work and on the other hand expresses his ethos as an artist: man in nature."
