Helmut Krüger (born July 3, 1926 ) is a German church musician and author.

Krüger worked for 25 years as a church musician in Groß Neuendorf , Kienitz and Ortwig , villages in the Oderbruch region, where, under the conditions of rural communities, he primarily performed motivational work with choral and instrumental work. Today Helmut Krüger lives as a pensioner in Rangsdorf .

He has become known to a wide circle of church musicians for his work Small Choir - Very Big . The book was initially written as a lecture at the Brandenburg Organ Festival in 1964. The author reports on the experience he gained through his own work in leading rural choirs under difficult conditions. Krüger received essential suggestions from studying historical performance practice in the writings and works of Michael Praetorius . He recommends supporting the choir with recorders , brass , strings or the organ . Missing choir voices can be entrusted to instruments or transposed by another voice. In the training of church musicians, the book is regarded as the standard work of cantor practice .
