Helmut Mikelskis
Helmut Mikelskis (born November 1, 1947 in Bad Hersfeld ) is a German politician, university professor and author.
Mikelskis graduated from high school and studied physics in Göttingen with a diploma. Then he studied education, psychology, sociology and philosophy. In 1979 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the didactics of physics. He worked at the educational seminar at the University of Göttingen and research assistant at the Institute for Science Education in Kiel . His main work areas were natural science didactics, environmental education, technology development and natural philosophy.
Mikelskis was district chairman and state board member at the Jusos and a member of the SPD district board. In 1987 he became a member of the SPD state executive, 1991 deputy SPD state chairman and from 1982 to 1991 he was a member of the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district council and chairman of the environmental committee. In 1992 he was directly elected to the state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein in the constituency of Rendsburg-Süd . However, he resigned his mandate on October 12, 1992 in order to accept the professorship for Didactics of Physics at the University of Potsdam. There he was dean of the mathematics and natural science faculty and then director of the Institute of Physics and Astronomy. In 1999 he left the SPD. Since 2011 he has been living as a freelance author in Freiburg im Breisgau. Helmut Mikelskis is married and has two children.
