Helmut Preller

Helmut Preller (* 1951 in Hamburg ) is a German artist .

Preller studied art history and religion. In 2004 he moved from Hamburg to Schönberg (Mecklenburg) , where he acquired the vacant Hotel Stadt Lübeck . He became known nationwide with his art installation The Wall of Schönberg on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall . “Helmut Preller is something like the Hubertus Knabe von Schönberg,” writes the taz with regard to the discussions that followed the art project, some of which were extremely heated.

He taught art and religion at the Rahlstedt high school (Hamburg).
