Helmut Reuter
Helmut Reuter (born August 9, 1946 in Cologne ) is a German psychologist and emeritus professor of psychology at the University of Bremen , with a focus on general psychology, art, cultural and music psychology, social psychology and legal psychology. He is also the founder and managing director of the Institute for Education and Culture (IfBK) in Cologne. Since 2013 he has been teaching at the RWTH Aachen University in the study module Psychology and Religion (Chair of Systematic Theology, with Ulrich Lüke ).
biography
After graduating from high school in 1966 in Cologne, Reuter studied psychology , art history and philosophy at the Ruhr University in Bochum . He continued these studies in 1966/67 at the University of Münster, adding the subject of psychiatry. After graduating with a thesis on pharmacological effects on the unconscious in art perception and completing his doctorate with a thesis on Emil Nolde , he took on teaching positions at the University of Münster and the University of Bremen.
In 1982/83 he did psychotherapeutic and psychiatric work at the Gütersloh State Hospital with Klaus Dörner . The habilitation took place in 1988 with a thesis on Klaus Mann . He was a research assistant in a project on occupational safety, further teaching and research took place as a private lecturer at the University of Bremen. In 1995 he was appointed Associate Professor. From 2004 he was a professor at the Institute for Psychology and Cognitive Research. Until 2012 he was engaged in psychological research and teaching in the psychology course, in particular in the subjects of general psychology, art, cultural and music psychology , social psychology and legal psychology . He participated in the establishment of the bachelor's degree in psychology. In 2013 he was offered the position of Bishop Klaus Hemmerle Professorship at RWTH Aachen University. Reuter is the managing director of the Institute for Education and Culture (IfBK) in Cologne.

In September 2014 his book History of Psychology was published . Further publications and lectures were made in the field of everyday and philosophical psychology, as well as joint projects with his wife, the pianist Ana-Marija Markovina , in the fields of music interpretation and psychology. His main interest lies in questions that have to do with the development of psychology as an instrument of knowledge for the experience, behavior and cultural identity of individuals.
