Helmut Saake

Helmut Saake (born April 27, 1942 in Korbach ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

Helmut Saake studied from 1962 to 1969 classical philology, philosophy , theology , Jewish studies and ancient history at the universities of Marburg (1962–1966), Munich (1964) and Bochum (1966–1969). After receiving his doctorate in Bochum (1969), he did research at the universities of Bogotá and Hamburg . As early as 1970 he completed his habilitation in Basel, where he worked as an associate professor of Greek and Latin studies ; In 1971 he was appointed full professor. In 1980 he was President of the Board of Trustees of the Free University of Northern Germany .

From the 1980s Saake taught as Professor of Classical Philology and Philological New Testament Studies at various universities, scientific colleges and faculties: from 1983 in Jönköping (ACU-M.), From 1989 in Philadelphia (FTS), from 1990 in New Delhi (FTF) and from 1993 in Los Angeles ( ATS ). In 2007 he retired .

Saake's main research focus was the New Testament , the philological understanding of which he sought in several monographs and essays. A specialty was ancient pneumatology (spiritual theory), on which he wrote several articles since the 1970s, including an extensive article in the real encyclopedia of classical antiquity .
