from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helmut Schäfer (born February 9, 1952 in Cologne ) is a German dramaturge and theater director.

Life

Helmut Schäfer studied philosophy and sociology . After completing his studies, he worked as a dramaturge in Berlin , Düsseldorf , Frankfurt am Main , Cologne and Stuttgart, among others . In Berlin, Duisburg, Essen, and Cologne he pursued various theater-related teaching activities.

Together with Roberto Ciulli and Gralf-Edzard Habben , Helmut Schäfer founded the Theater an der Ruhr in 1981 in the former Solbad Raffelberg in Mülheim an der Ruhr and has been its artistic director and senior dramaturge since the theater was founded. He established the intellectual and aesthetic profile of the theater, which to this day is 40% self-financed through guest performances. Schäfer thus prevailed over other city theater models. The types of contracts he had with the staff were also exemplary for other theaters.
