Helmut Spengler

Helmut Spengler (born April 19, 1931 in Wetzlar ) is a Protestant theologian and was church president of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau from 1985 to 1993 . He is with Christiane geb. Nohl is married and has two daughters and two sons.

Spengler attended high school in Gießen , where he passed his Abitur in 1951. He then studied Protestant theology at the Philipps University in Marburg and the Bethel Church University in Bielefeld . After attending the theological seminars in Herborn and Friedberg , he was vicar in Wiesbaden , then in Offenbach am Main and finally in Breidenstein (now part of Biedenkopf ), where he took on his first pastor's position after his second state examination in 1960. In 1964 he moved to Bad Homburg vor der Höhe as a pastor .

In 1972 Spengler was appointed deputy to the church president of Hesse and Nassau, Helmut Hild , so that he moved to Darmstadt for the church leadership there. In December 1984 Spengler was elected as Hild's successor as church president. He took office on March 24, 1985. After eight years in office, Spengler retired. In 1993 the regional synod of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau elected Peter Steinacker as his successor.

Spengler was awarded, among other things, the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal of the State of Hesse. He spends his retirement in Darmstadt.
