Helmut Waßmuth

Helmut Waßmuth (born September 26, 1937 ; † June 29, 2011 ) was a German soccer player who played 66 games with 17 goals for SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken from 1958 to 1961 in the Oberliga Südwest .

career

Amateur, until 1958

Helmut Waßmuth, who had come from a young age, played with SC Altenkessel until the 1957/58 round in the 1st amateur league Saarland. On October 12, 1957 he made his debut together with goalkeeper Klaus Basikow and defender Karl-Heinz Schnellinger in the German national soccer team of amateurs at the international match in Ilford against England. In the 2-1 success of the DFB team, he formed the German runner row with captain Herbert Schäfer and Fritz Semmelmann . Saar 05 committed the talent to the round in 1958/59.

Oberliga Südwest, 1958 to 1961

At the side of the top performers Kurt Clemens and Fritz Altmeyer , coach Bruno Börner brought the newcomer to use in his first round of the Oberliga in 21 games. Waßmuth, he mostly played as an outside runner, scored six goals and Saar 05 came in ninth. On the first match day of the 1958/59 series, on August 17, 1958, the man from Altenkessel made his debut in the hefty 1: 6 away defeat on the Betzenberg against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Oberliga Südwest. The inner-city derbies against 1. FC and the sports fans stood out in the upper house. Regionalliga Südwest, 1963 to 1965

With Völklingen, Waßmuth took seventh and fifth place in the last two rounds of the 2nd division and thus moved into the new Regionalliga Südwest from the 1963/64 season. Coach Herbert Binkert and teammate Horst Eckel were the most influential people at Völklingen. Waßmuth only made eleven appearances in the Regionalliga Südwest and ended his career as a contract player in 1965.
