Helmut Wagner (political scientist)

Helmut Hermann Friedrich Wagner (born December 21, 1929 in Rastenburg ) is a German political scientist .

After graduating from high school in Greußen in 1948 , Helmut Wagner initially did an agricultural apprenticeship in Ottenhausen from 1948 to 1950 . He then studied from 1950 to 1954 with Otto Heinrich von der Gablentz , Ernst Fraenckel and Otto Suhr at the German School of Politics . This was followed by studies in political science, history and philosophy with Theodor Eschenburg , Hans Rothfels and Bruno Schultz at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In 1961 he received his doctorate on the subject of the territorial division of Germany into countries since the establishment of the Empire . He then worked from 1961 to 1963 as an assistant to Golo Mann at the Technical University of Stuttgart . From 1965 to 1970 Wagner was an assistant professor at the Otto Suhr Institute . His habilitation took place in 1970 on the subject of Marxist Metamorphoses in Poland - The Changes of theoretician Adam Schaff . In 1971 Wagner was appointed professor for theories and foundations of politics at the Free University of Berlin . In 1995 he retired .

His main research interests are nation and continent formation, German and Korean reunification issues, and European and non-European integration efforts.
