Helmut Weber (theologian)

Helmut Weber (* 1930 in Oberwinter ; † July 7, 2005 in Trier ) was a German moral theologian . From 1966 to 1997 he taught moral theology at the Trier Theological Faculty ; From 1979 to 1987 he was rector of the university. The Bishop of Trier appointed him cathedral chapter in 1985 .

His General Moral Theology of 1991 and his Special Moral Theology of 1999 have each been translated into several languages. The latter is a monographic attempt “to redefine the realization of Christian ethics in the most varied areas of life, including in the area of ​​our interpersonal relationships, our body and life, in the area of ​​reproduction and the protection of life, genetic engineering and organ transplants, the death penalty and the Suicide, euthanasia and war, finally marriage and human sexuality ”.

Weber was buried on July 14, 2005 in the courtyard of the cloister of Trier Cathedral. Among the mourners were u. a. the then Bishop of Trier Reinhard Marx and the Bishop of Speyer, Anton Schlembach, a fellow student of Weber.
