Helmut Wiemken

Helmut (Carl Rudolf) Wiemken (* 1926 ) is a German literary scholar and translator .

As part of his translation work, he primarily translated literary stories and novels, for example by Edgar Allan Poe and Mark Twain, into German. Various non-fiction books also belong to his translation work.

In addition, Wiemken wrote his own literary writings. As part of his dissertation from 1951, he compared Apuleius Metamorphoses with the Greek works found in Oxyrhynchos , Egypt from 1855 , which are now summarized under the title Charition and Moicheutria . As part of this, Wiemken first put forward the thesis that Apuleius and possibly other Greek authors were influenced by the works found in Oxyrhynchos. Wiemken will continue to be received, whereby the dogmatic results of his investigation in particular flow into today's research.
