Helmut Zyla (born November 16, 1952 in Bochum , † February 1, 2016 in Gelsenkirchen ) was a German football player .

Zyla started his career at Rot-Weiß Leithe ( Bochum ). In the 1973/74 regional league season , Zyla and his employer SG Wattenscheid 09 were champions of the regional league's western season. In the subsequent promotion round, the SG did not prevail. Until 1982 Zyla, whose nickname was "Lion", played with Wattenscheid in the newly introduced 2nd Bundesliga . There he played a total of 225 games and scored eight goals during this time.

After the end of his career, Helmut Zyla trained as a teacher. From the 2010/11 school year he taught sports, mathematics and history at the Montanus School in Hückeswagen . After his health deteriorated over the years, Helmut Zyla died on February 1, 2016 in Gelsenkirchen and was buried in the Westfriedhof there.
