Helmuth Horvath

Helmuth Horvath (born May 14, 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian physicist and retired professor of experimental physics from the University of Vienna . His research areas mainly extend to the areas of aerosol physics and biophysics .

Life

In 1966, Helmuth Horvath obtained a master's degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Vienna (teaching examination) and then a doctorate in physics, also from the University of Vienna . From 1966 to 1968 he worked at the Senior Research Associate at the University of Washington in Seattle, before he accepted an assistant position at the University of Vienna until 1975. A year before his habilitation in experimental physics at the University of Vienna in 1975, he married his wife Ingeborg. Professionally, he stayed at the University of Vienna, where he was senior assistant from 1975, then associate professor from 1980 and professor from 2000 until his retirement in 2006.

From 1995 to 2000 he was head of the Institute for Experimental Physics. In addition to his university activities, he was active in numerous national and international committees and scientific associations, including as President of the Society for Aerosol Research (1999–2000, 2004–2008 and since 2016) and the Austrian Biophysical Society (1998–2004).
