Hemeroplanes Triptolemus is a butterfly of the family of enthusiasts .
Distribution area of the swarm is Mexico , Ecuador and the east of Brazil .
butterfly
It feeds on nectar with a trunk . Both sexes live relatively long at 10 to 30 days. The female lures the male with pheromones and lays green transparent eggs.
Caterpillar
The caterpillar feeds on Mesechites trifida, an evergreen woody climber. The caterpillar of Hemeroplanes triptolemus is dull green (young caterpillar) and brown (older caterpillar) and is able to enlarge the lower body segment so that it looks like a snake's head , including eye spots and reflections. It only imitates the front part of a snake as its body length is insufficient for more. This is a form of mimicry to predators to chase. The pupa is glossy black and the stage lasts three weeks.
