Hemikyptha is a genus of the humpback chirps (Membracidae), a family of round-headed cicadas (Cicadomorpha) from the superfamily of the Membracoidea .

features

The species of the genus Hemikyptha are among the largest humpback hoppers with a length of over 25 millimeters. The representatives of the genus are strongly built, the pronotum has two, mostly pointed horns, which are directed laterally forwards and a pointed, roof-shaped extension to the rear, which extends to the end of the forewings. A similar habit can be found in the genus Hyphinoe . The color is mostly dark brown or brown-black spotted.

distribution

The species of the genus are found exclusively in the Neotropic . Hemikyptha marginata and Hemikypta scutelligera are known from several countries .

Way of life

Practically nothing is known about the way of life of the species; they are mostly found individually.
