Hendrick van den Broeck
Hendrick van den Broeck (* 1519 in Mechelen ; † September 28, 1597 ; also: Arrigo Fiammingo , Henricus de Palude , Henricus Paludanus , Henricus Malines ) was a Flemish painter and engraver.
Life
Van den Broeck was the son of the painter Jan van den Broeck, who probably initially trained him and his two brothers Willem and Crispin .
Like his brother crisping he first started in the studio of Frans Floris . Around 1550 he went to Rome and probably worked with Giorgio Vasari . From 1561 you hear about him in various Italian cities. His main focus was in Perugia , where he designed and probably executed the stained glass window with the Saint Bernard sermon in the cathedral in 1565 and where the adoration of the three kings in the church of St. Francis is attributed to him.
In 1564 he signed a contract with Niccolò Circignani ( il Pomarancio ) to design the Orvieto Cathedral . But he himself went to Rome, because from 1565 to 1572 he and Matteo Perez d'Aleccio (also: Matheo da Lecce ) renewed the frescoes in the entrance area of the Sistine Chapel in Santa Maria Maggiore .
He also worked on the Sistine Chapel , where he painted the figures Esrom, Aram, Aminabad and Naassom. The fresco of the Last Judgment is also attributed to him.
Catherina de Palude († 1592) was his daughter.
