Life

He was the son of the painter Jan van den Broeck, who probably first trained him and his two brothers Willem and Hendrick .

Crispin was more drawn to the histories and became a student of Frans Floris (Frans de Vriendt). In 1555 he was enrolled as a member of the Guild of St. Luke in Antwerp and in 1575 he joined the relief fund. On May 19, 1559 he received citizenship in Antwerp. From 1566 he also supplied the Plantin printing house in Antwerp (Arias Montanus, Humanae Salutis Monumenta). The brothers Wiericx who worked also at Plantin, stabbed many of his paintings.

In 1583 he painted portraits of their patrons St. Peter and St. Paul for the brotherhood of the Romanists - which only accepted members if they had been in Rome . In 1588 he took Pieter van der Wal as a pupil.
