The first products of the Kallhardt & Hengstenberg company are cucumbers, vinegar and mustard. Two years later, the partner left and Richard Alfried Hengstenberg continued the company on his own. Due to the company's growth, in 1895 the company moved from its previous location in Esslingen's old town to a larger site in Mettinger Straße on the outskirts. The company launched the world's first pasteurized sauerkraut in 1932. The company has been bottling vinegar in consumer-friendly bottle sizes since 1950, and at the same time the Altmeister brand was created for these vinegars. The brand name Mildessa was invented for the sauerkraut produced in 1953, followed by the brand name Rotessa for red cabbage products in 1964. The company has been selling Mediterranean tomato products under the Oro di Parma brand since 1967. In 2009 the head office was finally relocated to Esslingen-Zell . After Esslingen-Zell was the location of the company headquarters for 7 years, the company moved back to its former location in Mettinger Straße on the Hengstenberg area in Esslingen in 2016.
