Henk Numan
Hendrik "Henk" Numan (born June 13, 1955 in Amsterdam ; † April 26, 2018 in Landsmeer ) was a Dutch judoka . He won an Olympic bronze medal in 1980.
Athletic career
The 1.87 m tall Numan mostly competed in the light heavyweight division. He won seven Dutch championship titles from 1977 to 1982, five in the heavyweight division and two in the open class. In 1978 he lost the final in the open class against Peter Adelaar .
In 1974 Numan won a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships. In 1976 Numan was military world champion. At the 1979 World Championships he was defeated by the Soviet judoka Tengis Chubuluri in the round of 16 , and Numan fought his way to the bronze medal with three wins in the round of hope. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow Numan reached the pool final with two wins, in which he was defeated by the Belgian Robert Van de Walle . With the victory over the Hungarian István Szepesi in the hope round Numan secured a bronze medal. In 1982 Numan again finished fifth at the European Championships .
After his active career, Numan was President of the Dutch Judo Federation.
