Hennadij Olehowytsch Korban ( Ukrainian Геннадій Олегович Корбан ; born May 24, 1970 in Dnipropetrovsk , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian businessman and politician.

Life

Hennadij Korban was born to a Jewish family of engineers in the Soviet Dnipropetrovsk. From 1988 to 1990 he did his military service in the Red Army . From 1994 to 1997 he studied economics at the National Mining University of Ukraine in Dnepropetrovsk.

Since 1999 he has been working with Ihor Kolomojskyj and his private group . From 2001 he was the chairman of the board of directors of the Southern Mines and Process Combine and since 2005 he has been a board member of Ukrnafta , the largest Ukrainian oil and gas production company. According to Forbes- Ukraine, in 2014 he was number 71 in the ranking of the 100 richest Ukrainians with a fortune of US $ 108 million.

From March 16, 2014 to March 24, 2015 he was under the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Ihor Kolomoyskyi, his deputy in the oblast. In September 2014 he received the Ukrainian Order "For Bravery" 3rd class. Since the founding of the “UKROP” party in June 2015, he has been its party leader and in October 2015 stood as the party's candidate in the local elections in Ukraine as candidate for mayor of Kiev , where he received 2.61% of the vote.

On October 31, 2015, Korban was arrested in Dnepropetrovsk. He is accused of violating four sections of the Criminal Code: Section 255: Creation of an organized criminal organization, Section 191: Embezzlement, embezzlement, Section 349: Arrest of a representative of the authorities and Section 289: Kidnapping in traffic. On December 28, 2015, Korban's detention was extended for another 60 days, and on December 29, 2015, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine released part of the files on the Korban case. On January 23, 2016, he was deposed as party leader at a meeting of the political council of the “UKROP” party.

Private

Korban is married and has four sons. His hobby is collecting contemporary works of art.
