Private group

The Privat Group also Privat Group ( Ukrainian Група “Приват” ) is an influential group in Ukraine around PrivatBank , one of the largest banks in the country.

The group is headed by the Ukrainian entrepreneurs Henadiy Boholyubov , Oleksiy Martynov , and Ihor Kolomojskyj and controls parts of the steel, oil, chemical, energy and food industries in the Ukraine, Russia and Romania, in some cases significantly. The group's business cores are financial services and the iron and steel industry. Most of the group's companies, including the private bank itself, are based in Dnipro or Dnipropetrovsk Oblast . The private group also owns several Ukrainian media outlets , maintains close relationships with politicians and is a sponsor of Ukrainian professional sports.

Iron and Steel Industry

Various iron and steel companies form the core of the private group (Ukraine is the sixth largest producer of iron ore worldwide with 54.7 million t and the seventh largest producer of steel with 38.6 million t ); the group forms a complete vertical chain from manufacture to processing to sales.

Oil industry

According to media reports, the private group has significant shares in Ukrnafta and NPK Halychyna. Ukrnafta is a semi-state oil company engaged in the extraction of petroleum and gas condensate, as well as retailing gasoline through its large network of gas stations. NPK Halychyna (Naphta- Petrolkombinat ) owns and operates an oil refinery in Drohobych ( Lviv Oblast ).

The group controls the Ilichivsk fuel terminal company , the operator of the oil and gasoline terminal in the Black Sea port of Chornomorsk .

Food industry

The private group owns the Dnieper soft drinks company " Biola ". The group controls much of the sugar beet processing industry throughout Ukraine (Ukraine is the fifth largest producer of sugar beet in the world).

Energy industry

In 2005, the private group bought shares in five energy companies and thus has extensive control of the power supply in Ivano-Frankivsk , Poltava , Sumy , Chernihiv and Lviv / Lemberg . The names of the companies are the names of the respective place / oblast with the ending-oblenergo, z. B. "Poltavaoblenergo".

The private group is a sponsor of the professional football club FK Dnipro .

Relationships and controversy

The private group is in constant and violent conflict with the Ukrainian entrepreneur Viktor Pinchuk and his Interpipe Group . Many subsidiaries and affiliates of the Interpipe Group have their headquarters in and around Dnipro .

Before the Orange Revolution , the group was politically relatively uninvolved, but loyal to the regime of Leonid Kuchma . After the change of government, the owners of the private group allegedly concluded an "alliance" with Yulia Tymoshenko , which Tymoshenko denied.
