Hennecke Graf von Bassewitz (born January 27, 1935 in Rostock ) is a former German diplomat and ministerial conductor in the Foreign Office .

Life

Bassewitz first became a journalist after studying law. In 1963 he joined the German Foreign Service and was then employed at the embassies in Kuala Lumpur (1966–1969) and Singapore (1969–1971). After he was press spokesman for Federal President Walter Scheel between 1974 and 1976 , he was used at the embassy in Washington (1976-1979). From 1979 he was ambassador to Sierra Leone . After working as a section head in the Foreign Office (1982–1985), he was head of the German Information Center (GIC) in New York from 1985 to 1989. From 1989 he was first consul general in Kiev and became ambassador there with the independence of Ukraine (1991-1993). Then he worked as a sub-department head in the Foreign Office. Most recently, he was the successor to Johannes Preisinger from 1997 to 1999 as ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina . His successor in this office was Hans Jochen Peters .
