Henner Ruppersberg

Henner Ruppersberg (born February 14, 1933 in Homburg ; † May 2017 in Saarbrücken) was a German natural scientist and full professor of structural research and thermodynamics at Saarland University .

Life

In 1951, Ruppersberg began studying chemistry at the newly founded Saarland University. In 1960 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. nat. He then moved to the Institute for Metal Physics and Metallurgy under Hugo Josef Seemann . 1967 followed the habilitation in the fields of physics and crystallography. In 1971 he became a full professor for structural research and thermodynamics. Ruppersberg repeatedly lectured abroad. He was visiting professor at the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg) and at the School of Engineering at UCLA (Los Angeles), as well as visiting professor at the "Institut National Polytechnique" in Grenoble. From 1982 to 1985 he was the deputy German director of the "Institut Max von Laue-Paul Langevin" in Grenoble.

Ruppersberg was also involved in academic administration. He was several times vice dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and from 1986 and 1988 Vice President for Research at Saarland University. In 1989 he was a founding lecturer of the “École Européenne d'Ingénieurs en Genie des Matériaux (EEIGM)” course. In 1995 he retired.
