Henner Weigand

Karl Henner Weigand (* 1951 ) is a former German basketball player . With the MTV 1846 Giessen he became German champion in 1975.

career

As an adolescent, Weigand played fistball, handball and basketball at MTV 1846 Gießen and was promoted in the latter sport by Bernd Röder  , among others . In 1968 he took part in the European Junior Championship in Vigo , Spain , as a member of the German national team.

In 1969, Weigand, who was employed as a development player, made the leap into the men's team of MTV and thus into the basketball league . There were also appearances in the European Cup. In 1975 he became German champions with Gießen, and a year later he retired from the Bundesliga due to the aftereffects of an Achilles tendon tear. Weigand, who was a teacher at the Friedrich-Ebert-Schule, remained loyal to basketball, initially as a player in the BG Wetzlar / Krofdorf in the 2nd basketball league , TSV Krofdorf-Gleiberg, and then the senior team of VfB 1900 Gießen.
