At the end of 1964, Thomas Bernhard became aware of the advertisement for the Vierkanthofs advertised by Karl Ignaz Hennetmair in Obernathal 2, municipality of Ohlsdorf (Upper Austria) and signed the purchase agreement on January 6, 1965. As a result, Hennetmair brokered two more properties for the writer, namely in 1971 the so-called Krucka (Grasberg 98) and in 1972 the “Quirchtenhaus” near Ottnang am Hausruck . In Bernhard's 1978 story Yes , the figure of Moritz, the realities broker, is an image of Hennetmair.

In 1972, Hennetmair kept a diary of the life of his prominent neighbor for a year and initially sealed it. After its publication under the title A Year with Thomas Bernhard in 2000, some aspects of the person Bernhard were seen in a new light and in the weekly newspaper Die Zeit it was said in a review: “Without knowing this book, no one can find out more about Thomas Bernhard dare to utter ".

In addition, Hennetmair had built a private archive from thousands of previously unpublished letters, documents and other life testimonies around Thomas Bernhard. It also contains, among other things, Bernhard's will, with which he wanted to prevent the performance of his plays and the distribution of his books in the Republic of Austria after his death.
