Hennie (Heinrich, Henk) Quentemeijer (born January 1, 1920 in Rheine , † April 22, 1974 in Sydney , Australia ) was a Dutch boxer . In 1947 he became the European light heavyweight amateur champion .

Career

Hennie Quentemeijer was one of five boxing brothers from Enschede in the Netherlands . It is known from his early days that he was in the Dutch East Indies even before the start of the Second World War , where he played a total of seven professional fights from 1938 to 1941. Of these fights against now largely unknown opponents, he won six and fought once in a draw.

After returning to the Netherlands, he fought again as an amateur from 1946 to 1948, with one exception in 1947 . In 1946 and 1947 he was the Dutch light heavyweight champion of amateurs. In 1947 he went to the European Championship in Dublin to start and won there in the light heavyweight division with victories over György Kapocsi, Hungary, Ken Wyatt, England and Leon Nowiasz, France, the European title. On May 28, 1947 he was in a Europe selection, which denied a comparison match against the United States in Chicago . He lost it in the light heavyweight division against Dan Buccerioni , who later put down a considerable professional career, by knockout in the 2nd round.

In 1948 he also started at the Olympic Games in London. He lost his first fight against Mauro Cia from Argentina on points in the light heavyweight division in London . It was a fight in the round of the "last 32", so that with all the losers in this round he came in 17th place.

In December 1947 and from December 1948 to March 1955, Hennie Quentemeijer fought as a professional again. He played ten fights, mostly heavyweight, of which he won seven. The best-known opponents he boxed against were Alain Cherville, Belgium, against whom he won on points on September 15, 1954 in Amsterdam , Heinz Seelisch, Germany, against whom he won on points on October 20, 1954 in Oldenburg, and Günter Nuremberg, Germany, against which he lost on points on November 28, 1954 in Oldenburg.

On January 4, 1955, he won in Groningen with a knockout victory in the 12th round over Henk de Voogd, the Dutch championship of professional boxer in the heavyweight division. On May 5, 1955, Hennie Quentemeijer lost in Newton / Great Britain against top English boxer Johnny Williams by knocking out in the 2nd round. This was his last fight.

Hennie Quentemeijer played a total of 17 fights as a professional, of which he won 13, he lost three fights and once he fought a draw.
