Henning Zeidler

Henning Zeidler (born January 4, 1942 in Berlin ) is a German internist and rheumatologist . From 1988 to 2007 he held the chair for internal medicine and rheumatology at the Hannover Medical School and was director of the rheumatology department.

Career

Zeidler attended the classical grammar school in Bad Kreuznach . From 1961 to 1967 he studied human medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz , from 1964 as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . In 1967 he received his doctorate. med. with an experimental work carried out at the Chemical-Physiological Institute of the University of Mainz.

As a medical assistant he worked in 1967 in the surgical and gynecological department of the municipal hospital in Säckingen and in 1968 in the internal clinic of the Am Urban hospital in Berlin. From 1968 to 1969 he was an assistant in the rheumatism clinic Bad Kreuznach. From 1969 to 1971 he did his military service as a medical officer in the artillery school in Idar-Oberstein . From 1971 to 1982 he was a research assistant and from 1982 to 1983 senior physician in the department for diseases of the musculoskeletal system and metabolism at the Hannover Medical School. In 1977 he was recognized there as a specialist in internal medicine, in 1980 the additional qualification in physical therapy and in 1981 the sub-field of rheumatology for internal medicine. In 1978 he completed his habilitation there in internal medicine.

From 1983 to 1988 Zeidler was professor (C3) for internal medicine, especially rheumatology, with senior physician function in the endocrinology department and head of the physical therapy department of the Medical Faculty of the University of Düsseldorf . In 1988 he was appointed professor (C4) for internal medicine and rheumatology at the Hannover Medical School as the successor to his academic teacher Fritz Hartmann .

Zeidler was president of the German Society for Rheumatology from 1989 to 1990, member of the "Education and Training" committee of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) from 1992–2001, 1993–2001 spokesman for the Rheumazentrum Hannover, 1993–2002 spokesperson for the executive committee of the working group of the regional cooperative rheumatism centers in the German Society for Rheumatology, and from 2002 to 2003 spokesman for the rheumatism competence network.

In 2003 he founded the MHH Kunstforum eV with Peter Petersen and has been organizing the series of lectures "Great Artists and Their Diseases" since 2010 together with the MHH's Patient University.

His main research interests are spondyloarthritis, chlamydia-reactive arthritis, health economics of rheumatic diseases and diseases of great artists.
